Children whose parents pay less attention to their education may have more difficulty in learning, let alone finding interest in the learning process.
Some parents work long hours, which prevented them from paying attention to their children’s education.
Some of my pupils I interviewed said all they get were verbal reminders. That is how their parents monitored their education.
I think as educator we need to offer program that help pupils improve their reading skills during summer. They might ignore it first but children are adamant. They might send their children off to school on summer to tutoring in reading.
A time-bound reading proficiency program designed by educators for volunteer mentors, the program must include a required training for the volunteers on the proper ways of teaching non-readers. It must create to accelerate the learning abilities of a student through one-on-one mentoring and tailor fitting the special needs of the children still on the reading learning curve.
Enhancing further the program, parents should attend special sessions on how to encourage learning in their children, and in preparing timetables that balance learning and entertainment.
It must be a partnership of three- the mentor, parents, and teachers. I know it is not easy for the children to learn just like that, through motivation and values formation they might learn on the program. I believe children can overcome the challenges.
I believe there is a direct correlation between willingness to learn and the love for reading with socio-economic background, stating that limited resources have an affect the desire to learn. “Socio-economic background also plays a strong part – some of these non-readers work during weekends and their families can ill-afford to spare them to attend a free mentoring program.
I believe a typical non-reader is not stupid. On the contrary, most of them are highly intelligent but they are usually shy or too attached to play so they are left behind by their peers. It is unfortunate that their parents are either illiterate themselves or are too busy to give them the special attention and encouragement they need to learn. If the child has no interest and gets used to underachieving, years will pass and time will come when the child will accept being an under-achiever. However, if we can help them realize the beauty of reading, they use it to improve their lives. Reading is a skill they will never lose.
As educator, the significant contribution we can make to our students was to enable them to appreciate the value of education. I think you can share something with the program I have in mind.
It must highlight how many people are willing to help and be part of the solution. In addition, the most amazing thing is that these volunteers will do it out of love. It will be your contribution to the children’s quality of life.
So feed my mind and share.
As a teacher, I was very interested in this article, as it highlights the great importance of reinforcement, at home and in the classroom, for students to achieve success. While it may be true that many parents will still not make time to follow up on their children's education to the extent they need, there is another solution, a reading efficiency software program called AceReader Pro (www.acereader.com).
ReplyDeleteAceReader contains 260 grade-leveled comprehension tests, plus numerous drills and fun yet challenging games. Students can move through the material themselves automatically in the Course Mode, or they can change the display (i.e. font, color, rate and manner of text presentation and import their own text in the fully customizable Expert Mode.
This program is backed by extensive quantitative research, and you can find both the research and numerous testimonials about its effectiveness on the AceReader site. I would recommend this program to anyone who needs a reading boost or who simply wants to improve their reading skills.
thanks.....Glad for feeding my mind
